EDGE Leads the Way: New Adult Dual Enrollment Flyer Empowers School Boards to Expand Opportunity

The California EDGE Coalition has released a new Adult Dual Enrollment (ADE) flyer aimed at equipping school board members with the tools they need to expand opportunity for adult learners across their districts. Designed as a conversation starter, the resource breaks down what ADE is, why it matters, and how boards can take action to ensure adult education programs are aligned with pathways to college and career. Under SB 554 (sponsored by EDGE in 2019), adult learners pursuing a high school diploma or equivalency can enroll in community college courses tuition-free while still receiving adult school support—an approach that creates a practical, supported bridge into higher education.

The flyer makes a clear case for why school boards should prioritize ADE as part of their broader strategy. It highlights how the model promotes student success through early college exposure, helps address enrollment shifts by engaging adult learners, and advances equity by lowering cost barriers for historically underserved populations. By accelerating progress toward credentials and careers—especially in high-demand fields—ADE also strengthens local workforce pipelines. In accessible, plain language, the resource reflects EDGE’s commitment to advocacy that connects policy to real-world impact for learners and communities.

With a built-in call to action, the tool urges leaders to champion expansion, strengthen cross-institution collaboration, and set a clear goal: ensuring every eligible adult learner has access to dual enrollment opportunities.
