Position Title: Policy Analyst

Location: Work from home/Downtown Sacramento, CA

Employment Status: Full-Time – 40 hours/week

Reports to: Policy Director

Compensation: $80,000 – $90,000 starting, depending on experience, and competitive benefits package

Under the leadership of the policy director, the policy analyst is responsible for researching and evaluating policies to assess their effectiveness and identify their benefits and drawbacks, collaborating with partners and the community to further the mission of the CA EDGE Coalition, and proposing solutions to advance EDGE’s policy priorities and suggesting improvements or new policy initiatives.


  • Research and evaluate state policy, legislation, and budget items.
  • Provide partners in Los Angeles with state policy information relevant to the LA context.
  • Create, proofread, and edit documents.
  • Develop and disseminate communications and website/social media content that provide tools and information for partners and the community to engage in state advocacy.
  • Support briefings for policymakers, staff, and other partners to enhance their understanding of policy and practice related to workforce education and training.
  • Engage in advocacy to advance EDGE’s programmatic goals and policy priorities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations, coalitions, and associations throughout California and the Nation.
  • Respond to requests for information from board members, legislature, administration, and other partners.
  • Represent EDGE in the community by attending various meetings and events.
  • Participate in various statewide committees and workgroups.
  • Under the direction of the policy director, develop and disseminate information on how California policy, legislation, and budget items related to EDGE’s priorities impact Los Angeles.
  • Assist in developing a plan for ongoing state policy engagement and advocacy in Los Angeles, including communicating legislative positions and preparing responses to legislative and budget actions.
  • Develop meeting notices and agendas, and take meeting minutes and notes.
  • Participate in live and virtual presentations

Desired Qualifications:

  • Commitment to the CA EDGE Coalition’s mission, social justice, and shared prosperity for all Californians.
  • Demonstrated integrity and professionalism in all aspects of the position.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in government relations.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and communicate the impact of legislation on workforce development, education, and training.
  • Proficient in independently organizing work, managing multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines, and coordinating effectively with others.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write, format, edit, and proofread various materials and reports.
  • Deep understanding of the California legislative process and public policy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with collaborative partnerships and a diplomatic, team-oriented working style.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and reliable, with strong time management and flexibility to handle diverse tasks.
  • Comfortable working in a remote office environment, with willingness to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.
